DIN eKYC Filing

A Director Identification Number (DIN) is a unique identification number allotted to an individual who intends to be appointed as a director or is already serving as a director of a company. It is mandatory for anyone acting as a company director to obtain a DIN under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013. Earlier, DIN was obtained through a one-time application filed in e-Form DIR-3.

As per the current requirements of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), every individual holding a DIN is required to complete an annual KYC (Know Your Customer) compliance by filing e-Form DIR-3 KYC. This filing ensures that the director’s personal details, such as contact information and identity particulars, are updated and verified in the MCA records. Failure to complete the DIR-3 KYC within the prescribed timeline may result in deactivation of the DIN and penalties.

We assist directors in completing their annual DIR-3 KYC filing accurately and on time, ensuring seamless compliance with MCA regulations and uninterrupted continuation of their directorship.

Form DIR-3 KYC is an electronic compliance form prescribed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) for updating and verifying the KYC (Know Your Customer) details of individuals holding a Director Identification Number (DIN). It ensures that directors’ personal information, including address, mobile number, and email ID, remains accurate in the records of the Registrar of Companies (ROC).

Earlier, DIR-3 KYC was required to be filed annually by every director whose DIN was in “Approved” status. However, as per the latest amendment notified by the MCA (effective 31st March 2026), the compliance requirement has been revised. Going forward, directors will be required to complete their KYC once every three years, instead of annually. This change significantly reduces the recurring compliance burden for directors.

For the Financial Year 2024–25, the due date for filing DIR-3 KYC without any late fee has been extended to 31st October 2025. After this date, a late filing fee of ₹500 will be applicable, and failure to file may result in temporary deactivation of the DIN.

Timely filing of DIR-3 KYC is essential to ensure uninterrupted directorship status and continued compliance with MCA regulations.

To comply with MCA regulations, directors must submit their KYC details through one of the prescribed modes. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs provides two types of DIR-3 KYC filing options, depending on whether it is the first-time submission or whether any changes are required in the existing details.

1. DIR-3 KYC (e-Form)
This form must be filed when a director is submitting KYC details for the first time after the allotment of a DIN. It is also required if there is any change or update in the director’s KYC particulars, such as a new mobile number, email ID, residential address, or other personal information. The e-Form requires proper verification of details and must be digitally signed and certified in accordance with MCA requirements.

2. DIR-3 KYC WEB
This version is applicable to directors who have already filed DIR-3 KYC in a previous year and do not have any changes in their KYC details. In this option, the director’s information is pre-filled from the MCA database and cannot be edited. It serves as a simplified and quicker compliance method for directors whose details remain unchanged.

To successfully file Form DIR-3 KYC, certain documents and details must be kept ready in advance to ensure smooth and accurate submission.

  1. Permanent Address Proof – This may include documents such as Voter ID, Driving Licence, Passport, or any other government-issued identity document reflecting the permanent address.

  2. Present Address Proof – A recent utility bill (not older than two months), bank statement, or rental agreement may be submitted as proof of current residential address.

  3. Aadhaar Card – Mandatory for Indian nationals for identity verification and OTP authentication.

  4. Passport – Mandatory in case of foreign nationals and required for Indian nationals who hold a passport.

  5. Other Supporting Documents (if applicable) – Any additional documents required to substantiate changes in personal details.

In addition to the above documents, the following are essential for filing:

  1. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) of the Director – The form must be digitally signed by the director (applicant).

  2. Professional Certification – The form must be certified by a practising professional such as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost Accountant, along with their Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), membership number, and certificate of practice number.

Keeping these documents ready ensures accurate and timely filing of DIR-3 KYC without delays or rejection.

Filing DIR-3 KYC is a structured online process through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal. Below is a simplified step-by-step overview of the procedure:

Step 1: Login to the MCA Portal
Visit the official MCA website and sign in using your registered User ID and password. If you are a new user, complete the registration process and create an account before proceeding.

Step 2: Access the DIR-3 KYC Form
After logging in, navigate to MCA Services → Company e-Filing → DIN Related Filings. Select either Form DIR-3 KYC or DIR-3 KYC Web, depending on your eligibility. Enter the DIN along with the registered mobile number and email ID. OTPs will be sent to both for verification, which must be entered to proceed.

Step 3: Enter and Verify Personal Details
Fill in the required personal and identification details, including name, father’s name, date of birth, nationality, PAN, Aadhaar, residential addresses, mobile number, and email ID.
For DIR-3 KYC Web filings, most details will be pre-filled and cannot be edited.

PAN verification is mandatory for Indian nationals and must be validated through the “Verify income-tax PAN” option. For foreign nationals without PAN, the name entered must exactly match the name in the Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) to ensure successful validation.

Step 4: Upload Documents and Complete Certification
Upload the required supporting documents, including address proof and identity proof. The form must be digitally signed by the director using their Digital Signature Certificate (DSC). It must also be certified by a practising professional such as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost Accountant, along with their membership and certificate of practice details.

Once all details are completed and verified, submit the form online.

SRN Generation and Confirmation
Upon successful submission, a Service Request Number (SRN) is generated as a reference for tracking the filing. An official confirmation email will also be sent to the director’s registered email ID, serving as acknowledgment of successful DIR-3 KYC filing.

Filing e-Form DIR-3 KYC within the prescribed due date is a mandatory compliance requirement for directors holding a valid DIN. If a director fails to complete the filing within the specified timeline, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) will mark the Director Identification Number (DIN) as “Deactivated due to Non-filing of DIR-3 KYC.”

Once the DIN is deactivated, the individual will not be able to act as a director or complete any filings related to the company until the DIN is reactivated. To restore the DIN status, the director must file the pending DIR-3 KYC form and pay the prescribed late filing fee.

Non-compliance may also impact company filings and regulatory processes where an active DIN is mandatory. Therefore, timely submission of DIR-3 KYC is essential to ensure uninterrupted directorship and continued compliance with MCA regulations.
