EPF Return Filing- Annual

Employee Provident Fund (PF) return filing is a mandatory compliance requirement for establishments registered under the EPF Act. Employers must file monthly returns through the EPFO portal, ensuring accurate reporting of employee details, wages, and both employee and employer contributions. PF contributions are generally required to be deposited by the 15th of the following month. Timely and accurate filing helps businesses meet statutory obligations and avoid interest, penalties, and other legal consequences arising from non-compliance. Regular PF return filing also ensures that employees receive their entitled social security benefits and helps organizations maintain transparent payroll records, comply with applicable labour laws, and promote responsible employee welfare practices.

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme is a government-backed social security initiative designed to encourage long-term savings among employees and provide financial security after retirement. Through mandatory monthly contributions deducted from salaries, employees gradually build a retirement corpus. These accumulated funds can be withdrawn as a lump sum upon retirement or under specified conditions.

Under the EPF scheme, both the employer and employee contribute 12% of the employee’s basic salary. Out of the employer’s 12% contribution, 3.67% is credited to the employee’s EPF account, while 8.33% is allocated to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS).

EPF withdrawals are permitted at retirement (on or after 58 years of age), after two months of unemployment, or by nominees in case of the member’s death before retirement.
